First off, Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay deserves kudos for shedding his action/political persona and digging his toes in and choosing a script that focuses on comedy and emotions. And having gone through endless trouble, legal and otherwise, expectations about the film have risen sky-high. Ekaveera Creations' Tamil film Kavalan (Bodyguard), a remake of the Malayalam hit Bodyguard, directed by Siddique himself, has certain changes incorporated in the script for the star himself but that's only to be expected. This isn't to say that the film is completely devoid of minuses, but the beginning, at least, kicks off in intriguing fashion.Instead of the usual fireworks induced sparkling title credits, the introduction is pretty low-key, despite the boxing-match beginning. In yet another surprise, the hero, Bhoominathan (Vijay), so named by Muthuramalingam (Raj Kiran), at his birth, and blessed by him to be the very epitome of non-violence, even takes a few punches on the chin. Of course, he also gives back as good as he gets. That's because Bhoominathan, or Bhoomi, as he's called affectionately, would like nothing more than to solve everyone's problems with a healthy dose of violence.

‘Kavalan’ releasing without any hurdles
‘Kavalan’ releasing without any hurdles
‘Kavalan’ which was lead to trouble has at last crossed the hurdles and is getting ready for its release.
A couple of days back Madras High Court has stayed the release of the film as per the case filed by J K Saravanan, proprietor of Tantra films. In his plea he stated that producer of ‘Kavalan’ Ramesh Babu has assured him the rights of overseas for Rs five crores and he paid Rs 1.5 crores as advance to the producer. But later Ramesh has sold the rights to Cinema Paradise.
On hearing the case Justice Rajeshwar examined J K Saravanan after which he withdrew his stay. Now as per the decision of the court producer Ramesh Babu and Shakthi Chidambaram have decided to give the color lab agreement to Tantra films Singapore.
‘Kavalan’ is finally free from everything and will be hitting the screens world wide with 1000 prints in the last week of December. Meanwhile Vijay will be coming up with the audio in the first week of December.

Kavalan overseas goes for record price
Kavalan overseas goes for record price
Ilayathalapathy Vijay's domestic Tamil Nadu market must be at an all time low, after the failure of his last release Sura.
The theatres in Tamil Nadu have threatened to boycott his next release Kaavalan, if they are not compensated for Sura's loss.
But all this does not matter in the international market where Ilayathalapathy has a huge solid fan base. Now Tantra films, an overseas distributor has snapped up Vijay-Asin starrer Kaavalan at a record price.
The market buzz is that Kaavalan's FMS (overseas) rights has been sold for Rs 6 Crore to Tantra, nearly Rs 2 crore more than what the star's last film fetched ! The Vijay power at the overseas box-office is increasing with every film.
In the Indian domestic market, Kaavalan a remake of the Malayalam film Bodyguard has been sold in Kerala to Thameens Films at the rate of what normal Vijay film fetches.
